More generally, a product's AVCP level can also vary by intended use , for example, a sealant might be assigned a higher AVCP system when used in a structural joint (where failure has serious consequences) but a lower AVCP system when used for a purely decorative joint, even though it's the same essential characteristic being assessed. Separately, for reaction to fire specifically, the applicable AVCP system depends on whether a clearly identifiable stage in the production process results in an improvement of the reaction-to-fire classification, for example, the addition of fire retardants during manufacturing: such products are subject to AVCP System 1. Products without such a stage are subject to System 3, and products exempted from reaction-to-fire testing altogether are subject to System 4 (i.e. no continuous surveillance under either system). The applicable AVCP level(s) are given in Annex ZA of each hEN.
